I have really enjoyed watching everyones final presentations so far. We all have spent a lot of time and effort working on them and nice to see how everything turned out. What I loved about the presentations on Wednesday is that everyone brought something different- Sylvia touched on a subject thats relatable to everyone in college, and well everyone in general- love. Cam showed a story of relationship, particulary one between a father and son, it also showed accomplishment. Mike showed something that was both entertaining and filled with art and music. And Danielle told a story that brought awareness to a subject most people are maybe unfamiliar with.
In further detail
Sylvias Project- I liked how she told most of the story through still photographs and then added in video here and there with quotes from the psychologist. It was a huge improvement from her rought draft and I think having the quotes and music provided a lot more substance and really brought it to life. It was cool to feel as if I knew the couple at the end of the video.
Cam- I mean I think everyone will say the same thing about Cam's project in that his experience and hard work was definetly shown in this piece. I thought the whole thing was really clever and I liked how it focused more on the relationship between him and his father than his great accomplishment of completing a marathon. Cam through in some things that I didn't even know you could do! Like highlighting a portion of a picture, which I thought was really great. The music defintely added a factor to it and it was one of those things you got chills while watching it. I thought he put it together really nicely, it was tightly edited and it told a great story. I learned a lot from Cam's which I thought was helpful too
Mikes- I think Mike's project overall just really reflected his personality and you can tell Mike will be really great at this if this is what he decided to go into. I really thought I was watching a VHI's "Behind the Music" It had a "cool" factor to it, the music was great, the pictures were really incredible I thought, especially the colors. Overall I think it was a great piece.
Danielles- Her project was the most touching for me. It was one of those projects that really brought awareness to a subject, it opened your eyes to something that you don't normally think of on a daily basis. I liked her choice to use all black and white still photos it fit the purpose of the story perfectly. I felt pretty claustrophic watching it. I was like ah show another picture out of the room- then I realized this is this guys life, its all he experiences, we could feel his pain, we felt for him we sympathized for him, it was a great journalistic piece and I think she did both a wonderful job editing and covering it.
I learned something from everyone and I am looking forward to the next group to present!
Thanks for the comments, AJ. I particularly liked what you said about Danielle's story...the sense of claustrophobia. She did well to ignore my suggestions of interviewing others.
